Egg White Oats (high protein without powder!)

Ingredients

  •  1/2 cup old fashioned oats (I use sprouted One Degree brand)
  • 1/4-1/3 of egg whites
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey (adjust sweetness to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of sea salt

Directions

  1. Cook the Oats: Add 1/2 cup of old-fashioned oats to a pot with 1 cup of water or milk (adjust liquid based on your desired consistency- I like my oats thicker so I do about 3/4 cup water). Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the oats begin to thicken (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. Add Egg Whites: Lower the heat to medium-low and slowly stir in 1/4–1/3 cup of liquid egg whites. Continue stirring for 2-3 minutes until the egg whites are fully cooked and the oats become creamy.
  3. Flavor the Oats: Stir in 1 tsp of ground cinnamon, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Adjust sweetness by adding 1 tsp of maple syrup or honey.
  4. Optional Add-ins: Serve warm and top with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, nuts, or nut butter.

* 1 serving is ~15 grams of protein. I add peanut or almond butter, hemp seeds, or pumpkin seeds to get an extra 6-10 grams.
